Pancake Day?

God stuff

I have to say, this idea of Shrove Tuesday being about pancakes is pretty new to me. Anyone know if it comes from a certain country or ethnicity? Of course, now I'm thinking about making pancakes for dinner, because they do sound good.

I did go to Starbucks and get a mocha this morning, because I'm giving up coffee for Lent this year. The barista was rather sad to hear that, but I promised I would still come in for chai.

Pretty much everyone in Britain refers to Shrove Tuesday as Pancake Day & pretty much the entire country eats pancakes today! Some people even have pancake races!

The idea behind making pancakes is to use up ingredients which you would traditionally give up for lent. That doesn't really hold true anymore though considering how everyone rushes out to buy eggs & flour at this time of year!

I just had a quick look on wikipedia (the font of all knowledge!!) & the term 'Pancake day' seems to just be a UK thing. You learn something new every day!

Good luck with giving up coffee!

It started as a promo at Denny's.

It's an Episcopal thing, too--probably the brit connection. Lots of church pancake suppers.
