I would say this was the perfect blend for the beginning of a fantasy novel. We get a slow enough start with the leaky pipes and a bit of exposition, but it doesn't drag because they jump to fight scene right away. Although, I did think they were gay lovers at first. Heh.

I like Mae, but she makes me nervous. Seems like one of those people who knows just enough truth mixed with myth and lies to *really* get into trouble.
