Question about ACORN/Fraudulent Registration

I understand that voter registration groups like ACORN end up registering some fake names (Mickey Mouse) or reregistering people who are already registered. As Yglesias says here, it would be pretty much impossible to have a large number of voter registrations without a few fake forms. But what I want to know is whether said fake registrations actually lead to voting fraud. Are people actually showing up and identifying themselves as Mickey Mouse and trying to vote? Does anyone have links/evidence in either direction? Thanks!

I think the idea is that Mickey Mouse and his thousands of friends would vote absentee, with the help of get-out-the-vote volunteers. Just my guess.

From my understanding, all votes are checked against social security numbers and, depending on the number of fraudelent voters and the number of votes needed for a win, it could be a factor in skewing the results.

Generally you sign in at your polling place after showing ID and receive your ballot and then at the end of the day, those ballots are collected and checked against a database. How accurate THAT is, is probably roughly the Florida recount numbers. There are a LOT of people in our counties and votes are tabulated pretty darn quickly. I'd be willing to be that anyone could challenge the votes and find discrepancies.

Better late than... well, you know. Carrie K has to show ID at her polling place? I never have (City of Boston). I just show up at my district, give them my name which they re-confirm with my address, and vote. So yeah, theoretically you could register Mickey Mouse in one city voting district, Donald Duck in another, to your heart's content, and then drive around all day re-confirming the addresses and voting 18 times. So, either Boston checks things really stringently before accepting your registration in the first place, or my city's elections are shamefully easy to defraud. Hm.
